Here are the most frequent questions I’m asked! If you don’t find the answer to your question below, I’m sure the pdf file I email you when you contact me will cover it – + more! 🙂
What does the session fee include?
– email or phone consultation to plan your session
– a lifestyle shoot on my property and surrounding areas in Monroe, NC
– a private gallery of 20+ edited photos for you to share for a week with your family and friends (via ELM Fotographie’s very own iPhone/iPad/Droid application! Click here for more info!)
– a CD of 10 digital files of your choice with full printing rights.
How long does a photoshoot last?
I typically get the shots I need for a family shoot within an hour. A lot depends upon a child’s attention span. I’ve had some sessions that only lasted 20 minutes and we got all the fabulous shots we wanted! Newborn sessions may last up to 2 or 3 hours because of feedings, diaper changes, and everything in between:)
Where do you shoot?
The world is my studio. About 75% of my shoots take place on my property and surroundings in rural Monroe, NC. But I shoot everywhere – people’s homes, parks, the beach, urban downtown areas – you name it! If the shoot does not take place on my property I just charge a $50 on-location fee.
What time of day/days of the week do you shoot?
I prefer natural light – so my schedule runs around it! My favorite time to shoot outdoors is during the last hour or two of sunlight. I do shoots in the mornings as well if your children would be happier then. If I’m doing your session in your home, we’ll want to schedule when the light is the brightest in your home – often late morning or early afternoon. I schedule shoots 7 days a week – but I limit the number of sessions I take each week because the editing is what really consumes my time:)
How far in advance should I schedule my photoshoot?
I schedule as far as a year in advance. My weekends book up the fastest. People typically contact me a few months in advance – but if you need something sooner just check with me and I will see what I can work out.
What should we wear?
I could write a book on the answer to this question – and my pdf of information you will receive when you contact me covers this in more detail. But the “short answer” is this – BE YOURSELF! Wear colors that look good on you and your family – I just don’t recommend whites and pastels because they don’t photograph well (and most people look best in color anyways.) Don’t be too matchy – you wouldn’t walk out of the house in perfectly matched outfits! Pick complimentary colors – and don’t have everyone in a bunch of busy patterns – or t-shirts with writing! I love to help plan wardrobes – and I love for your selection to “match” the setting of your shoot – so reach out to me for help with this! Text me pictures of what you are considering!
Can we change outfits?
For seniors, engagements, and maternity shoots, I recommend an outfit change if you’d like – and for newborns we often change up hats, blankets, etc. But I typically don’t encourage changes for family shoots. It “disrupts” the shoot – causing toddlers – and even older children – to “break down.” I’d rather get lots of awesome shots of your children in one outfit than risk them “falling apart” during the shoot! If you really want to “change it up” some, it’s fun to plan some different activities or props to incorporate. Not to mention, we are also often “racing against time” with a setting sun – and outfit changes can waste precious lighting!
What happens after the shoot? (when/how do I get to see my beautiful pictures!)
I typically run 2-3 weeks out on my editing after your shoot. Once I have completed your shoot, I will email you a unique link to your beautiful proofs! You can view your pictures via that link – or even better, you can download my free app on your iPad/iPhone/Android to view them. For more information on proofing click here
Do you offer professional printing services?
If you want your pictures to print as they are intended to look (correct color, exposure), I recommend that you have my companies do the printing. Please email me for a full price list of prints, canvases, and custom boutique cards.
What is required to book my photoshoot?
Please contact me with the approximate dates/times that would work best for your shoot. I will let you know my availability – and then to officially “book” an appointment I require a $50 deposit and an online form. (the deposit can be paid via Paypal and the form is called the “Fun Family Fotoshoot Form” and is located at the top right of my blog). Please understand that I do not “hold” appointments unless a deposit has been paid and I am constantly booking appointments – so my availability frequently changes.
How do you schedule your newborn shoots?
I typically schedule a newborn shoot for around a week beyond your due date (unless you are expected to go earlier or later, then we take that into consideration as well). Scheduling a week out allows for “wiggle room” – but if the baby comes earlier or later, I will of course accommodate! I like to do my newborn shoots within the first two weeks of life because the baby is much sleepier and easier to work with.
What are my payment options?
I generally accept the deposit via Paypal then the balance can be paid at the appointment with cash, check or any major credit card (I use Square with my iPhone to do this!)
