Meet Carly – my gorgeous cousin. I got the chance to do her senior pictures when I was visiting Wilmington Memorial Day weekend – then Carly graduated this past Saturday from my own alma mater, John T Hoggard High School. You know sometimes I sit down to blog and I just don’t know what words to put down….because I feel like the pictures tell you more than I can tell you myself. So that’s what I do, I let the pictures tell the story. With this post I certainly could do the same – because the pictures so perfectly reflect Carly’s personality – especially the ones where Carly has her nose scrunched up giggling (by the way, when she is doing that in these pictures it’s because I was asking her to give me a serious look….while she was looking straight at a bunch of people dancing at the Memorial Day Festival at Wilmington’s waterfront….and it was pretty hilarious!)
But there’s so much more I want to say in this post – to tell you about Carly – about how her favorite color is purple – how she loves butterflies (and even has a few of them flying around permanently on her shoulder:)) – how she has such an eye for style and fashion (I think that is her calling!!!) – how she has a big heart for God’s little critters and for my kids – how she made the most beautiful quilt as her senior project this year, complete with pictures of her and our grandmother on it – and gifted it to our grandmother, the “great quilter.” But really what I want to tell about is how much she and her family have meant to me – but that’s kinda hard to put into words to. You see, I’ve known Carly her whole life – from the time she was a little toddler. She’s always had that beautiful dark hair and those dark beautiful eyes too by the way. But I didn’t get to really know KNOW Carly until the past few years. After my little sister passed away from the flu a few years ago, Carly’s family decided to move from Ohio to North Carolina. Really, there wasn’t anything holding them back – and they were tired of the cold, yucky Ohio weather. So my aunt Brenda moved Carly and my cousin Nolan down South and they now are just a few miles from from my parents’ home. (And I feel like it is a party now every time that I visit Wilmington – because since then, my grandmother and other aunt have also moved to Wilmington!) I really just don’t know what we’d have done without them in our lives now – we have so much fun hanging out – and they have just really been there through some tough times – God provides. “He gives and takes away” – Job 1:21
I’m so excited to see what path Carly takes after school…..and I’m so blessed that she and her family are really a part of my life and my path now too. Love you Carly!
Check out the ring our great grandmother Dora Belle gave Carly many years ago – her own high school ring – and my aunt had it resized for Carly to wear as hers!
